Disney has renewed Coven Academy for a second season after the show became the No. 1 streaming series among teens aged 12–17 over premiere weekend, TheWrap reports. Its first season has 21 chapters, each 10 to 15 minutes long. TheWrap says the season has accumulated 20.3 million global hours on Disney+ and Hulu, with another 30 million hours viewed after its first chapter launched on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
The numbers make the renewal understandable. The more interesting decision is what the show does with a second season. Twenty-one short chapters can introduce a school, a coven and a tangle of supernatural trouble at speed. Another run gives the series room to let those pieces develop instead of treating every reveal as a deadline.
TVLine reports that the first season ends with several major turns in play. Creator Tim Federle discussed possible season 2 directions, including Briar confronting Miss Graves about her birth. Those threads put relationships and consequences at the center of the magic. A boarding-school drama needs more than a fresh peril each week; its students have to change how they trust one another and what they are willing to risk.
The short format may help viewers discover the show through social platforms. Season 2 should still resist making every scene a miniature cliffhanger. The series has earned more room, and the best use of it would be letting its characters live with the secrets already on the table.
