Peacock has ordered a scripted Fast & Furious series, with the streamer aiming for a 2028 premiere, according to Variety. Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman will be co-showrunners and pilot writers. Vin Diesel, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan are among the executive producers. The timing could put the series alongside Fast Forever, which Variety says is slated for theaters on March 17, 2028.
That pairing is a neat piece of franchise arithmetic. A film can sell a single enormous event; a series has to persuade viewers that the people and relationships can sustain weekly attention. Diesel said the aim was to expand the legacy characters and their stories. That is the right ambition, and also the difficult part: familiar faces are useful shorthand, but shorthand gets thin when it has to carry a season.
Television could give those characters space to live between the franchise’s big set pieces. It could also turn “family” into a slogan repeated whenever the plot needs to gather the gang. The distinction will come down to whether the show gives its characters conflicts that matter beyond the next mission. Cars can make a spectacular entrance; they cannot do all the emotional work.
The 2028 target puts a visible deadline on Peacock’s plan, though the announcement supplies no plot details or cast list for the series. That leaves the central creative choice unsettled: which corner of this universe earns a continuing story? The answer will matter more than how many familiar names can fit into the opening credits.
