The Hunting Wives season 2 puts the affair back in the crosshairs

A new murder investigation and a Texas governor’s campaign surround Sophie and Margo’s reunion. The scandal needs consequences, not just more ammunition.

The Hunting Wives

Season 2 of The Hunting Wives puts Sophie and Margo back together amid another murder investigation and a Texas governor’s campaign. TheWrap’s trailer report says the two start the season estranged after Margo’s brother Kyle dies, with the trailer showing them drawn back into each other’s orbit. Detectives find another body, a politician promises “Texas justice,” and a film crew follows Margo and her husband. Netflix is set to premiere the season on November 26.

The campaign gives private scandal a public audience, while the film crew makes respectability look like another performance to manage. That could give the murder plot more bite than a parade of suspicious looks and conveniently dramatic firearms.

The more interesting risk is Sophie and Margo’s reunion. The trailer pairs their attraction with Sophie’s accusation that Margo manipulates her. Desire and distrust can make a crime story genuinely messy: each woman may have reason to protect the other, hide something from her, or do both at once. If the affair only supplies heat between murders, it is decoration. Its consequences should change what the women know and what they are willing to risk.

The trailer also introduces additional cast members, including Dale Dickey, Cam Gigandet, John Stamos and Angel Reese. A larger town can complicate the story, but each new face needs more to do than arrive armed or contribute a Texan flourish. The governor’s campaign already supplies a public stage for Margo’s private trouble. The season’s sharper move would be to make that stage dangerous.
