The Mob’s celebrity cast needs a game worth playing

Hulu’s competition pairs mob-movie-inspired challenges with a vote on who stays in the Family. Its recognizable cast needs a social game that gives those familiar personas a purpose.

The Mob

Hulu’s The Mob is scheduled to premiere on October 26, 2026, according to Marie Claire’s cast guide. Parker Posey hosts contestants in challenges inspired by jobs from classic mob movies, then the cast decides who stays in “The Family.” The streamer describes the series as “built around power, loyalty, and survival.” Among the contestants are The Sopranos actor Aida Turturro, drag performer Willam Belli, and reality-TV names including Joe Gorga and Harry Jowsey.

That lineup gives the format public personas to rearrange. Turturro is best known for playing Janice Soprano, a neat fit for a series borrowing mob-movie imagery. The reference does some work before the game even starts: viewers can recognize the connection, while still having no reason to assume how she will compete. The mix of reality-TV figures and scripted actors could make those expectations clash in useful ways.

The vote over who stays in the Family sounds more promising than the themed jobs. A cinematic challenge can still be just a task. Deciding who belongs gives contestants a reason to bargain, flatter, and misread one another. That is where a cast assembled from recognizable names can earn its keep. Familiarity helps viewers place contestants quickly, but the game could feel pre-sorted if everyone simply performs the persona attached to their name.

The Family vote needs to make those identities less predictable. Otherwise, the cast list will be doing the game’s work.
